Lead poisoning is big news these days, with several large companies announcing the voluntary recall of millions of toys, jewelry, makeup, glazed pottery and other products containing significant amounts of lead. While lead poisoning was once caused mainly by old paint, today a new rash of high lead levels is being seen in American kids, caused by foreign products – mainly from China.

So serious is the resurgence of lead poisoning among children that the U.S. Department of Public Health is working on writing a new law to require testing of those entering school for the first time. Lead is also hazardous to adult brains – research is beginning to show that low levels of lead affect adult brains as well as those of children.
